Anti-Aging with Maya de la Rupelle

My mom is always asking me what night creams she should try. And although I love skincare, my knowledge is limited to my own skin concerns. So, I sat down with Maya de la Rupelle, skincare guru and Senior Educator at Sephora in Wilmington to get the skinny on her skincare routine and advice on anti-aging.

When you’re in your 30s to 50s the main thing is anti-wrinkle. So, the StriVectin anti-wrinkle line which is infused with retinol is really good for that. Or the Murad Age Reform line is really good as well. He has two different serums in that line which are really potent. Also, the Peter Thomas Roth anti-wrinkle line! In the PTR line he has an anti-wrinkle serum with synthetic snail venom, diamond dust and 17 neuropeptides. The line also has the moisturizer, eye cream and a lip treatment. So those are my top three for anti-wrinkle.

After your 50s, you want to focus on firming and tightening. You’ll want to switch to either the StriVectin protein infused line--it’s the yellow line or with Murad, you’ll switch from the Age Reform to the Resurgence line. So with StriVectin you’ll switch from the pink to the yellow line. With Murad you’re switching from the purple line to the green line. With PTR, you will switch to his Nueroliquid Volufill face and eye serum. It addresses crepiness and is specifically for plumping and volumizing. So that is going to really help tighten.

For sensitive skin, Dr. Jart+’s newest product, Needles No More, is botox in a bottle. I really love that! He has a new exfoliant that is microdermabrasion with pharmaceutical grade crystals. Using those two products will help a ton.

Bliss makes a good peel for sensitive skin, but it’s not really potent. If you want a more potent peel, StriVectin makes a weekly 5 minute glycolic acid peel. It’s really expensive, but is such a good one. PTR, in his pro-strength line, has a triple acid peel with glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids. Either of those are a good weekly peel.

If you can only get one thing, get the serum. But if you use a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, peptides and vitamin C, it’s really going to help a lot. I definitely recommend using a moisturizer with any combination of those ingredients.

Basically, having a good routine will help your skin tremendously. Having a good serum to use night and day, an eye cream and your day and night time moisturizer, which can be the same. My routine right now is super extensive.

In the morning, I use the Murad time-release acne cleanser, which is anti-aging and anti-acne. I use that with my Clarisonic. Then, I do the Needles No More just in my problem areas. My eye cream is the StriVectin 360° firming eye cream. I use that night and day. Then, I go back over that with the Josie Maran Argon Oil Light as my daytime moisturizer. At night, I cleanse my face first with the Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil by Boscia to get my makeup off and then with the Murad cleanser. You want to do a duel cleanse at night. You always want to use a milk or oil based cleanser and then your targeted treatment cleanser, whether it’s for pores, acne, anti-aging or whatever! If you’re lazy, you can just use a wipe first. Ole Henriksen has some really good wipes.

After the duel cleanse, I do the Needles No More. And for my night cream, I’m using an Algenist moisturizer. After that, I spot treat with EradiKate by Kate Somerville. EradiKate is pure camphor, salicylic acid and sulphur which is why I use it at night. But I think it works really quickly and I notice it pulling my cystic acne to the surface. If I need to spot treat during the day, I use Peter Thomas Roth’s AHA/BHA treatment.

Once a week for a mask, I use the PTR therapeutic sulphur mask. Once a week for a peel, I use the Dr. Jart+ Pore Medic. I space the mask and the peel out by a few days, but I definitely do both once a week. My mask is targeting my oil and acne. You want to fight oil with oil which is why I use an oil based cleanser and the argon oil as a moisturizer. If you have dry skin, you need to put lots of water in it. The Jart+ Water Max Fuse sleep mask is a really good product for dry skin.

So that’s my current routine. I know that’s a million products. I am about to switch back to all natural products so I’m actually out of almost everything right now!
